Write 1000 words. Win $1000 dollars.
Amprosia is an open genre, open form prose competition. Open genre means that fiction in all forms (literary, horror, children’s, etc.) and non-fiction (memoir, essays, creative non-fiction, etc.) will compete head to head and word for word. Open form gives writers full licence to experiment.

• $1,000 First Place
• $400 Second Place
• $200 Third Place
Selected honourable mentions, plus First, Second and Third Prize winners, will appear in the Amprosia anthology and receive $25 PLUS a contributor’s copy
JUDGING:
Three-tier blind judging — Shhhhh! Final judge to be announced
All entries receive feedback from first-tier judges!

Contest Rules
The competition is open to all persons. The top prize winner of 2011’s Whispered Words Prose Competition cannot advance to the final round of the 2012 Amprosia Prose Competition.
Only one entry per author will advance to the final round.
Maximum word count—1000 words. Word count does not include title. English only. Entries must be original, unpublished and not submitted or accepted for publication elsewhere.
Prose entries only. Poetry will be disqualified and will not receive feedback.
Winning entries and honorable mentions will be published in the Amprosia anthology, along with selected other entries. All published entries will receive a contributor’s copy and $25.
No entries will be accepted via surface mail. Online (emailed) submission only. Send entries as an email attachment to amprosia@wcdr.org.
Each entry must be formatted on 8½” x 11” pages. Submissions should be double spaced, in 12-point Times New Roman font. Title centred 3-4” from top of first page; title and page number in top right corner of every subsequent page. Only MSWord (DOC or DOCX) or RTF entries accepted. No PDFs.
Contest is blind-judged. Entrant’s name must NOT appear on the submission(s). Include in the body of your email: title(s) of story, your name, address, phone number and email address.
Each entry may only be submitted once. Corrected resubmissions will not be accepted.
Only the author of the entry may submit his/her work. We cannot accept submissions made on behalf of another author. If technical reasons necessitate submission by a third party, a permission form must be obtained by contacting amprosia@wcdr.org.
Entry fee: $20 per story for Canadian entries; $25 per story for international entries. Online payment can be made via PayPal at www.wcdr.org. All cheque payments must be made payable to The Writers’ Community of Durham Region (WCDR) and sent to:

Submissions not accompanied (or followed) by an entry fee will be disqualified. Overpayment of entry fees will not be returned.
Submissions will neither be acknowledged nor returned.
Entries not conforming to the rules will be disqualified (i.e. entries exceeding the word count will not be judged.)
Contest closes midnight EST on November 1, 2012. Winners announced March 2013. Feedback will be sent out after the winners are announced (in March 2013.)

Cover Contest Rules
Psst! Calling all artists. The Writers’ Community of Durham Region is seeking cover art for its Amprosia anthology. The winning entry will adorn the collection of winning entries from WCDR’s prose competition.
Deadline: November 1, 2012 at midnight EST
Judging: Blind judging by David Schembri of Surfacing magazine, Durham’s premiere arts publication
Prize: $150 and publication on the cover of the Amprosia anthology, plus a contributor’s copy
Entry fee: $5.00
Design requirements
- Design entry for a cover measuring 5.5 x 8.5 inches
- Full colour design
- Include the title “Amprosia” and subtitle “An Anthology of Outstanding Prose from the WCDR Competition Fall 2012”
- Allow room for the editor’s name
