Duties include:

• Develop an editorial calendar in collaboration with the Board’s PR Director.
• Design 12-page newsletter (distributed bimonthly) using a graphic design or word processing program
• Edit all content and adhere to The Word Weaver style guide
• Assign articles, communicate with regular columnists, co-ordinate writing challenges, ensure deadlines are met, email members as necessary
• Send final draft of Word Weaver to the WCDR copy editor for final editing
• Arrange for printing of hard copies and distribution to editorial contributors and paying hard-copy subscribers
• Communicate with advertisers re: ad placement, payment, graphic specifications
• Communicate regularly with WCDR’s board of directors
• Keep track of all expenses and contributor payments; submit to WCDR treasurer
• Stay abreast of WCDR contests, breakfast speakers and special events for inclusion in the newsletter
• Mentor an intern to both help with WW duties, and to prepare successor.

Applicant must be a current WCDR member and maintain his or her membership throughout their tenure.

Term of position is 2 years maximum

This position is a volunteer position, but an honorarium is paid.

• Maintaining the website (training will be provided for this if necessary)
• Initiating WCDR member interaction through book reviews and “Seven Questions”
• Supporting the moderator of the discussion page when necessary
• Including items of interest to writers (and readers) on the home page.
• Working with the Board and with Shelley Macbeth to choose writers and their books to be the focus of RAW breakfasts
• Working with the breakfast speaker coordinator
• Working with an intern to both aid the coordinator and to prepare a successor for the position.
• Keeping the WCDR Board of Directors informed about issues that come up regarding the site.

Applicants will bring to the position:

• Creativity
• Enthusiasm for reading and writing
• An attitude of support of independent booksellers
• Curiosity about other WCDR members
