WCDR Receives Trillium Grant

WCDR to Hire Project Administrator
Thanks to $58,300 OTF Grant

Ajax, ON – The Writers’ Community of Durham Region (WCDR) has grown in leaps and bounds since being founded in 1995. Today, the organization has 350 members and provides a wide variety of services coordinated by a volunteer board of directors. WCDR is now able to hire a Project Administrator, thanks to a $58,300 grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF). Local OTF Grant Review Team member Penny Smith attended WCDR’s monthly breakfast meeting at the Ajax Convention Centre and presented WCDR president James Dewar with a plaque.

“This grant comes at just the right time,” said Mr. Dewar. “We want to expand our services to create new local writers’ circles, offer new training workshops and keep up ongoing professional development opportunities, and this is beyond the scope of our already too-busy volunteer board. Having a Project Administrator will make it possible to do what we do best and reach a wider audience.” Over the next two years, the OTF grant will cover the administrative assistant’s salary, office equipment and supplies, accounting software and travel expenses.
“I congratulate the Writers’ Community of Durham Region on securing this grant money. This will allow the WCDR to grow and continue to provide a hub for talented and aspiring writers in Durham Region,” said Ajax-Pickering MPP Joe Dickson.

WCDR is a non-profit umbrella organization dedicated to encouraging and promoting the art and skill of writing, fostering literacy and providing moral support to writers through education and networking, both independently and in cooperation with existing organizations.

A leading grantmaker in Canada, the Ontario Trillium Foundation strengthens the capacity of the voluntary sector through investments in community-based initiatives. An agency of the Government of Ontario, OTF builds healthy and vibrant communities. www.trilliumfoundation.org

  1. Congratulations WCDR for securing this grant. I have been a member of WCDR for almost two years now and could not have accomplished so much in such a short period of time if it weren’t for all the support and encouragement I have received.I feel I am honoured to be a part of such a talented, caring and genuine group of people. Thanks WCDR for all you do and continue to do. I can’t wait to see what comes next!

    Sincerely,
